David Cutcliffe
Coach Cutcliffe was born on September 16, 1954. He was raised in Birmingham, AL where he played high school football. He matriculated at the University of Alabama to play football, but after an injury his playing career ended. He served as a student assistant to legendary coach Bear Bryant during his undergraduate years.
Coach Cut has served as the head football coach at his alma mater, Banks High School in Birmingham. He later served as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee from 1982-1998. In 1998 Coach Cut was hired as the head football coach of Ole Miss, where he went to five bowls, won four, and compiled an impressive record of 44-29. His best season at Ole Miss was 2003, when his team went 10-2, including beating LSU for the SEC Western Division title and beating Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. He was fired in 2004 after going 4-7 and having "differences in opinion" with the Athletic Director over the firing of his assistant coaches.
By all accounts, Coach Cut is not only a great coach but also a great man.
We here at the Duke Football Report are excited about this hire, and we believe that Coach Cut is just the man to usher in the new, winning era of Duke football. We are excited about chronicling the return to greatness, and hope that you will check back often for the most recent news on Duke Football!
